November 2000:

Grand Opening Party for Hard Rock Cafe Manchester set for December 1st

The Grand Opening Party of HRC Manchester, England, was postponed a couple of times. There were rumors about a famous band that was supposed to play at the GO Party. Therefore the party was postponed a couple of times rumors have it. Maybe that is true - maybe not. At least the organization team for the GO Party changed. HRC Headquarters in Orlando were in charge of it - but now the european headquarters in London took over. Maybe now we won't see another postponed GO party anymore...

November 2000:

HRC Aspen closed down

This news really hurt me: HRC Aspen was shut down. It seems that it did not fit into the "totally new Hard Rock Cafe feeling" plan of HRC Headquarters in Orlando. The new HRC feeling with live bands performing would not have been possible in Aspen as this was the smallest HRC in the world (even Key West is bigger). Rumors have it that HRC is looking for a new and bigger location in Aspen now - but I personally have my doubts. I think it's a pitty that this fantastic HRC had to close down just because it didn't fit too good into the new Orlando plans. What's next ? A Key West closing ? Let's see - and hope...

October 2000:

HRC Amman closed down

There were rumors about it for quite some time. Some of the middle east HRC seems to have financial problems. And the first closing of a Middle east HRC just happened: HRC Amman in Jordan was closed. All HRC Memorabilia items were taken out of the cafe. The Merchendise stuff that was left will end up being sold in other middle east HRCs or over the internet. Let's see if more middle east HRCs will have to close...

HRC Rio de Janeiro, Brasil is open - and it is really big

rio.jpg (16129 Byte)

A new Hard Rock Cafe opened its doors on June 26th: HRC Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. And this is really a big one. It seats 2,600 people - which makes it the second biggest HRC in the world (only HRC Orlando is bigger). It contains, apart from the restaurant and merch shop, 3 bars, VIP area, a stage for musical performances (which can be transformed into a dance floor), and a humongous terrace with panoramic views of the city. There are 40 TVs and three projection screens, which at times will have direct link to events happening at the HRC in New York. The largest of the bars has a red Cadillac Eldorado Coupe de Ville from 1952 hanging above it (see picture above). Among the 340 pieces of memorabilia on the walls one will find Madonna's golden boustier, Michael Jackson's leather jacket, Elvis' gold records, and autographed guitars from David Gilmour, Lenny Kravitz, and Santana. Among the dining tables one can also find a Harley Davidson. It is signaled from the outside, with a giant guitar.

A special THANK YOU for this report to Stefan Caiafa.
